Proposal Feedback

On my proposal  I was told that my research question was articulated very well. I was also told the way that I assessed my sources and their credibility was very thought out. Overall I received very good feedback on my proposal and was told that I have a very intriguing question for my research. From my feedback I have also learned that I need to narrow the movies that I will watch down to about two or three and make sure they have a lot to do with our culture's conceptions of childhood. The new questions that I have after getting my feedback are, what movies will be the most relevant to my research? I will find this out by going to IMBD.com and reading different reviews on horror movies. New search terms that I may use in my research are, culture conceptions of childhood, and and how our culture construct childhood. As of right now I do not have any scholarly research questions, I feel fairly confident with my researching abilities.

Reflective Essay One

When thinking about my research proposal, I had many different ideas. At first I thought that I would research homeschooling children, and then I thought about researching what school was better for a child to attend (public, private, home school). After thinking about both of these topics I realized that they both have had much research and they both had a yes or no answer, I wanted something that made me broaden my horizons a little farther, something more unknown. I decided that I for sure wanted to research children and then after further thinking I thought of something that I myself find completely frightening. Which is why do children being haunted in scary movies scare us so much? I generated this question by looking through work we had done in this course and I was especially interested when we as a class talked about ghosts in children. One reading that we had in class that expanded my thinking of this question was the play "The Weir" this play made me think about how frightening it must be for a parent who has lost a child to think that their child could possibly be a ghost. Another class assignment that I used was our first class assignment when we wrote about Jacques Derrida when we watched the short clip with him talking about ghosts. This clip made me think about a recent movie that I have watched which was "The Woman In Black" which is about a ghost who goes around possessing children. I narrowed down my project and made it scholarly by deciding to focus mainly on children being haunted in movies, and by doing much research online to make sure this was a question that had not been totally answered before. The Internet helped me discover that this was a question that many people asked but did not have a complete answer, the Internet also helped broaden my questions. For example wikipedia made me think about how children with disabilities may be more susceptible to being haunted by ghosts. I had a very good experience with conferences, I felt that everyone I was with had very good topics and tried to make sure they gave everyone as much feed back as they could. For example one person in my group put on my paper that I might want to look into the psychology of how a child thinks, which is something I had not thought of before. I found it very helpful when I was revising my research proposal. Thus far in class I feel I have been working very hard and doing my best to make my assignments very well thought out. As a student I feel my work folder shows how hard I have worked. I put a lot of time into each of my assignments and I think it shows. The only problem that may occur in my work folder is it may not show the best grammar because that seems to be what I find the hardest when it comes to writing.
